The instrument
has been designed to cut 50 to 700 micron sections of fresh, unfixed tissue
for in vitro recordings, tissue culture and microassay work. It can also be used
to section fixed tissue down to 20 microns without previous embedding or
freezing. The Vibroslice has also been redesigned and considerably upgraded
in its performance from the original specification and will section tissue
such as brain stem, and liver maintaining the integrity of surface cells for
recording. A vibrating blade slices tissues without the traumatic damage of
other methods. The blade oscillates at a fixed lateral displacement of 1.0mm
at a frequency set by the user and then actuated by a footswitch. If damage
should occur to the blade this lateral displacement minimizes scoring of the
tissue. Both frequency
of the blade oscillation and the rate of advance of the section are important
in producing good quality sections. The Vibroslice is designed to be flexible
in its operation and has a removable tissue holder and bath, which allows
tissue to be prepared and stored ready for later use, provides easy cleaning
and prevents carryover of fixative between fixed and unfixed tissue. Recent
product redesign has incorporated a variable angle blade holder for the first
time. The advance
speed on the motorized models is now ultra-low being half of the previous
model and the speed of oscillation has been raised again. Changing of drive
belts is now much easier with the readily removable molded cover. |

The McIlwain Tissue Chopper has been designed to prepare samples of tissue for metabolic experiments and is particularly suitable for small and irregular samples for biopsy or from small organs. For Neuroscience it offers the opportunity for rapid chopping of tissue such as hippocampus, which is relatively, flat and will not suffer excessive stress damage. For slicing cortical or sub-cortical regions Campden’s "Vibroslice" will provide precise and gentle slice sectioning. The tissue chopper is also good for preparing cell cultures from the brain of young animals. Its operation
is such that it will cause much less disturbance of cell structure than would
a blender or homogeniser, and it can be used on fragments which would be
difficult to cut by ordinary methods. Typical applications are for liver,
kidney and parts of the central nervous system. Preparation of 1mm thick
slices or cubes and prism samples can be prepared in 30 seconds. The Chopper
offers stepless variation of slice thickness from zero to maximum by means of
an indexing clutch in conjunction with micrometer head calibrated in microns. Code

The 7600 enables the cooling of physiological fluid and tissue from normal room temperature to freezing point in approximately 5 to 6 minutes. The 7600 Cooler will achieve zero in about 4 minutes and has the capacity to go as low as minus 2 celcius. The result of slicing at correct temperature is twofold. Firstly the slice quality is improved and secondly the unfixed tissue is preserved for in vitro recording. Fresh tissue needs to be cooled as rapidly as possible to reduce its oxygen demand whilst perfusing, typically with 5% oxygen. The cooled bath fits onto the Vibroslice exactly as the standard bath and takes its power from the nearby control unit. Cooler for Vibroslice/Integraslice model 7600 |
Tissue Slicer Originally designed to prepare thin slices of living brain, the tissue slicer is also excellent for slicing other tissues, in the blocking of fixed tissue for histology, and in the slicing of electrophoretic gels. Sections as thin as 150 microns can be reliably prepared. The 51425 Tissue Slicer has a conventional vernier micrometer, with a resolution of 10 microns. The 51415 Digital Tissue Slicer has a digital display electronic micrometer, with 1 micron resolution. Switch from mm to inches, set zero at any point, set low and high tolerance limits. Features an over-travel warning signal and output to a printer, processor, data logger or computer. Code 51425 Manual Tissue Slicer Code 51415 Digital Tissue Slicer |

RODENT BRAIN MATRIX-RBM
We offer one
of the largest selections of brain matrices available. Made of acrylic, or stainless
steel, these matrices are sturdy and can be heated, chilled, autoclaved
(stainless steel only), scrubbed and stand up to rigorous daily use. Coronal
matrices have the additional feature of a mid-line sagittal cut to facilitate
splitting of the left and right hemispheres. Sections can be as fine as 1 mm.
The olfactory/spinal/notch is cut into each matrix. Code: BLADES

Slice Chambers for Blind Patching &
Extracellular Recording
Model 745
Series (E)
Compact and modular; easy to set up, easy to swap between submerged and interface modes. Consistently stable fluid flow and stable temperature. The Chambers Manufactured from Plexiglas, or, for pharmacological or toxicological studies chemically inert p.t.f.e. (Teflon®) to avoid adhesion of drugs. Ag/AgCl reference electrodes included with termination points, easily replaceable The one, two or four channel chambers can be used either in the classical submerged [Oslo type] or in the air/fluid interface [Haas Type] with humidified atmosphere above the tissue slices. To convert from submerged to interface type, simply exchange the chamber top plate Heated water
bath has a low noise heating element and gas tube to prevent oxygen loss from
perfusate solution. Holding chamber
for incubation of slices until transfer to recording chamber. Stable Temperature control by dual
thermistor feedback from water bath and slice chamber. Ergonomic design for
access from either side with micromanipulators |

Electronic digital calipers are a joy to work with. Readings in inches or metric at the touch of a button. Resolution of .001” or 0.01 mm. Floating zero feature allows scale to read plus or minus a set point without calculations. Stainless steel. Lockable. Code 58750 Digital Caliper |
Non-rotating Spindle Digital Micrometer HeadBuild your own precision micro-positioning device. The new non-rotating
spindle digital micrometer head allows you to create your own
micro-positioning instrument. With micron-level accuracy, it gives higher
precision than a normal micromanipulator. Since the spindle does not rotate
as it advances, instruments can be directly attached without the need for a
complicated decoupling device. The digital display eliminates the need to
squint at the notational scale. Readings can be clearly seen in either inches
or millimeters. You can read both absolute position and the increment
relative to a previously chosen point. In addition, there is a digital output
port. With optional cable and software SPG-KIT-MICRONR, you can send
measurements to your computer either continuously or every time a button on
the micrometer is pushed. Code 502102 |
